The approx. 2.5 km long circular route leads from the Mosel village of Graach over the free-range goat enclosure up to the district Graacher Schäferei, through the vineyards, and back to Graach.
The circular hike "Eselspädchen" in the wine village of Graach is especially well suited for families with children. This is mainly due to the animal world. Although there are no donkeys on this route, there are goats, and plenty of them! The animals can be experienced almost up close since the access to the enclosure is open thanks to a revolving door. In addition, the hiking trail offers beautiful and wide views over the Moselle cultural landscape, even to the Eifel on clear days. Elaborately designed insect hotels, which serve as "lodgings" for various insects and crawling animals, accompany you on the way to the friendly goats whose enclosure is crossed. Along the way, various information boards provide a wealth of information and interesting facts about the "Living Moselle Vineyards" and, of course, how the people of Graach came to have their donkeys. An exciting, varied route, ideal for children, too!
General information
Directions
The circular route is signposted from the Tourist Information (opposite the church) in Graach. Via "Haupt-" and "Weingartenstraße" we reach the edge of the village. There, the ascent begins along a hollow way lined with old slate walls. At the end of the hollow way, we turn off to the goat enclosure. A zigzag path leads further up through the enclosure. At the height of the goat stable, we leave the enclosure again and follow a narrow path to the houses of the Graacher Schäferei. On the "Panoramastraße" we turn right until we reach the firehouse. Opposite there, the village community square invites you to take a break. Right beside the square, we start the descent back into the vineyards.
