The Moselle town of Cochem offers hikers a wealth of circular hikes and walks, enabling them to get to know the medieval town nestling under the Imperial Reichsburg Castle.
One route passes Pinner’s Cross (footpath below the chairlift and above the railway station) – named after the shepherd Pinn who fell there when looking for a lost lamb. Another route passes along the Bernstrasse as far as the market place, then follows the Schlosstrasse up to the Imperial Reichsburg Castle. From there, the route heads down to the right along a path offering magnificent views – past St. Peter’s Chapel (the so-called ‘Plague Chapel’ of St. Rochus), through the Martin’s Gate (part of the former town wall) and back to the town centre.
