Family-friendly hiking route around the Sonnenberg near Leiwen on the Moselle

The route around the Sonnenberg is part of the Moselsteig side trail Moselachter and is consistently marked with the side trail's signs.

From the hiking car park, the loop starts together with the Moselsteig on an asphalted path, moderately steep uphill to a large forest junction. On a forest track, accompanied by large Douglas firs, it continues uphill. At the top, you reach the holiday park and a climbing forest. Here, there are opportunities for a stop at the gastronomy and for sporting activities.

On a forest path, the route continues without major altitude differences. A path where you can enjoy the tranquility of nature. Behind a hairpin bend, the path reaches an orchard meadow. The terraced meadow plateaus offer a uniquely beautiful panorama toward Leiwen and Trittenheim. A real "Moselkino".

The Moselsteig now leads back over the same track to the hiking car park. First moderately, then steeper uphill, the path leads to the height and at the highest point reaches a wildlife enclosure at the holiday park. Here too, the view of the Moselle landscape is wonderful. The rest areas and loungers invite you to take another break.

The return path to the Zummethöhe car park leads downhill through the forest. At the forest junction known from the outbound path, you can make a detour to the Marienkapelle chapel or take the direct route.

The "Moselkino" is located approximately halfway along the route. Pack a picnic blanket and simply enjoy the view.

Access is via the B 53 to the center of Trittenheim and then on the L 148 to Leiwen-Zummet
