General information
Directions
Starting from the parking lot, the route follows the path along the edge of the slope towards the chairlift mountain station at Pinnerberg. Guided by the Moselsteig marking, a forest path branches off to the left from the road into the forest slope. Further down, the forest path and the road join again. The last meters to the mountain station lead steeply downhill over rocky ground.
Above the chairlift restaurant, the path turns right (guided by the marking of the Moselsteig side route Cochemer Ritterrunde). A detour over the rocky ridge to the Pinner Kreuz is highly recommended. The view of Cochem with the Reichsburg castle is fantastic.
The continuation of the family tour winds first as a path, then as a trail through the forest slope towards Wakelei. After crossing a side valley, the path becomes a trail again, climbs steeply uphill, and finally reaches the Wakelei viewpoint. From here, there is a good view of the ruins of Winneburg, which lie high above the Endert valley.
The adjoining forest path can be walked a bit more leisurely. With moderate incline, it goes on forest paths through the high forest. Particularly impressive are the many mighty oaks here. At the highest point of the hike, the path turns sharply right and reaches the forest edge. The following short section over the high plateau offers wide views across the Mosel valley into the Hunsrück. The access road to the leisure park has to be used briefly, then the path branches off slightly downhill to the right at a group of chestnut trees toward the forest edge.
Those who want to shorten the round go right at the forest edge. Those who turn left can enjoy the view of the fields and walk a good stretch along the forest edge, gently downhill. In a forest corner, the route leads straight ahead and reaches the Moselsteig at the Schwedenkreuz. Here, several rest opportunities invite you to enjoy the view into the Mosel valley. There are also play options at the shady spots in the forest.
The continuation of the tour is guided by the Moselsteig marking. The path is sometimes wider, sometimes a trail again, leading with alternating ups and downs at different distances from the edge of the slope through the forest. It passes several viewpoints, such as the Rabenlay.
Finally, it goes briefly uphill again and the Klotten wildlife and leisure park is reached again.
Tip
The rest area at Wakelei is perfect for a picnic.
