Varied circular route that, despite the proximity to the city, offers surprisingly quiet sections. The view into the Moselle valley from the rocky hillside edge is very impressive. The walk through the animal enclosure rounds off the family outing.
General information
Directions
From the hiking parking lot, follow the marking of the Moselsteig or the Eifelsteig towards Trier-Biewer. Via a stair path, you reach the level of the hillside edge at Weißhaus (former excursion restaurant).
The initially still wide forest path becomes narrower and winds through the forest, which consists mainly of pines and sweet chestnuts. Along the hillside edge, the path leads with constant ups and downs over rock steps and roots (Please keep sufficient distance from the hillside edge!). Viewing platforms with lounge benches and rest opportunities are mostly directly on the path or reachable via a short detour. The view into the Moselle valley is worth every extra meter.
A bit further away from the hillside edge, the forest path leads steeply downhill. Halfway down into the valley, the route separates from the Moselsteig / Eifelsteig and turns sharply left. At the end of the development, the path reaches the wide valley floor of the False Biewertal. The further path is almost flat and leads as a forest edge path through the surprisingly quiet valley.
Shortly before the hiking parking lot, you must decide whether to end the trip or to follow the circular walk through the wildlife enclosure. Then turn right to the other side of the valley and around the wildlife enclosure in a large arc.
Safety Guidelines
Please pay special attention to the safety of your children in sections along the hillside edge.
Equipment
Please wear sturdy footwear and stay on the paths.
Tip
The Moselle bank Zurlauben on the right Moselle side offers, in addition to the new free staircase, some dining options with a beautiful view of the Moselle and the red rocks on the opposite bank.
