Scenic route with a steep ascent along the Goldbach. For the most part, it leads on wide paths through the forest of the Moselle town of Andel.

The starting point of this hike is Andel, a district of Bernkastel-Kues.

The Goldbach babbles through a pristine forest landscape in Andel. Smaller gold nuggets have repeatedly been found in the clear water here. A relaxing walk is still worthwhile today – even if finding gold is no longer likely...

Insights into the hiking route:

From Bernkastel-Andel, the path leads past a meadow area, then follows a steep climb along the Goldbach, where gold was supposedly mined in some places in the past. The gold miner's fountain at the very beginning of the hike recalls this time. This is why the Goldbach also gives its name to this hike. Along the way, there are benches and also a covered shelter to rest. In addition, there are great views of the Moselle valley, the most impressive from the "Wilhelmshöhe" and the Andel shelter.

There are no refreshment options along the route, so it is advisable to have a snack at the beginning or end of the hike in Andel or to carry packed food during the hike.

General information

Directions

Passing the gold miner's fountain in the center of Andel, the path first takes you over the forest road, then along meadows and animal enclosures to the edge of the forest, where you can already hear the Goldbach babbling! Always uphill, it goes steeply along the stream. You continue until you reach a forest path near the source and the edge of the forest. From here, you continue hiking on forest paths that wind moderately downhill and uphill. There are occasional spectacular views of the Moselle valley, the most impressive from the "Wilhelmshöhe" and the Andel shelter. From the large meadow area at this shelter, a small path leads down to a trail located below the hut. You follow this back to Andel.

Safety Guidelines

The hike starts in the wine village of Andel; pay attention to traffic.

Equipment

Sturdy, stable footwear; don't forget packed food.

Tip

For a refreshment break, I would recommend a visit to a winery in Andel. Buy packed food for the journey in Bernkastel-Kues and then enjoy it on the "Wilhelmshöhe"!
