The circular hike in the Holzerather Forest leads 6.5 km over forest paths and along the stream to the leisure center at Holzerather See.
Large lawns invite you to sunbathe or relax in the shade of the mixed forest surrounding the lake.
A small bridge leads from the lake over the gently babbling inflow to the water treading basin. Children can play on the lawns, the zip line, and the swing or train their balance on the 20-meter-long natural wooden log. A volleyball court rounds off the offerings.
Reachable on foot from the village in 15 minutes. A large parking lot is located directly at the leisure facility. Therefore, it would also be possible to start this circular hike from here.
General information
Directions
From the parking lot, follow the upper path along the weekend house settlement through the Osburger Hochwald. The path meets the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig, which we now follow towards Kell am See. Upon reaching the valley, follow the stream to Holzerather See. From there, it goes back up towards the village entrance to the starting point.
Safety Guidelines
Basically, entering the forest and walking on the hiking trails is at your own risk.
Seasonally or weather-dependent, increased surefootedness is required on certain trail sections. Therefore, wear clothing and hiking shoes with appropriate tread adapted to the season and weather.
Tip
The leisure center offers many opportunities for a great day at the lake with a barbecue hut, water treading basin, and children's playground!
Getting there
Coming from the A1, take the Reinsfeld exit – through Reinsfeld to Holzerath. The parking lot is located on the left side after entering the village.
