The Hunsrück-Moselle cycle trail is the ideal trail to take you over the Hunsrück Heights onto the Moselle valley. It leads from Hahn Airport (Büchenbeuren) via Kastellaun to Treis-Karden.

Requirements:
Short, moderate climbs across the Hunsrück between Büchenbeuren, Kastellaun and Lieg require only moderate cycling ability. The route towards the Moselle is then downhill all the way. In the opposite direction, the 2.5 km-long main incline between Lütz and Lieg up from the Moselle requires considerable strength, at up to 10 %. Since it runs on a tarmacked forest path, however, it may be used undisturbed by car traffic.

General information

Directions

Initially, the western part of the trail stretches over the flattened Hunsrück heights along the watershed of the Nahe and Moselle rivers, between Büchenbeuren and Kastellaun. Further on, a quiet connection away from traffic leads from the Hunsrück towards the Moselle. Partly in the valley, partly on the wide heights, the cycle trail winds from Kastellaun through Mannebach, Sabershausen, past Petershäuserhof to Lieg, where the rapid descent into Lütz in the Lützbach valley begins.
