Winding paths, natural stream valleys and three via ferratas integrated into the trail (can be bypassed) at lofty heights promise hiking enjoyment at the highest level. There are also magnificent views of the Hunsrück and the Moselle valley as far as the Eifel. The trail also passes old slate tunnels, slate spoil heaps and reconstructed houses of the former slate tunnel workers.

Above the starting point is the Schock Chapel, also known by locals as the Poor Man's Chapel. In front of the chapel, a slate plaque marks the viewpoints far into the Eifel. The trail soon descends on earthy, winding forest paths to the Mörsdorf stream.

Behind the Pulgermühle mill, the trail begins through the Flaumbach valley through open meadows along the edge of the forest.

After crossing the Flaumbach stream, three via ferratas follow: the Burgberg via ferrata, the Schinnkaul via ferrata and the Höhlenschlucht via ferrata. If you don't want to take on the hardships of the via ferratas, you can use the signposted bypass. The bypass and via ferrata rejoin after a few minutes.

The trail then runs through extensive woodland past old slate tunnels, slate spoil heaps and partially reconstructed houses of the former slate mine workers. You can recover from the long climb out of the Flaumbach valley on a bench and enjoy the far-reaching views of the Eifel.

The trail has been awarded 90 experience points by the German Hiking Institute.

General information

Directions

From the parking lot, we follow the signs to the Traumschleife trail out of the village and reach the Mittelstrimmig portal. From here, we hike approx. 300m along a tarmac path, past an educational tree trail, which can be instructive not only for younger hikers. After enjoying the beautiful view at the "Schockkapelle" chapel, we cross the L200 with caution and enter the Schockwald forest. Here the path leads past a covered hut with barbecue facilities. The hike now leads us onto open terrain. From this elevated point, we can enjoy the beautiful panoramic view over the valley. Continuing on, we keep left for approx. 1200m downhill along natural field paths and a narrow path to the Altstrimmig portal. Another covered hut with barbecue facilities awaits us there. On a narrow, winding path, through quiet forest along a small stream, we walk approx. 500m downhill to the "Bildbach". We keep left and walk approx. 1300m to the Mörsdorfer Bachtal. Here we keep left again and follow the so-called "Talrandweg" along the "Mörsdorfer Bach" and come across the first benches. After approx. 2000m, we reach the first sensory bench where we can enjoy the tranquillity of the valley and the sound of the stream. If you like, you can also learn about geology a little further on under a covered seat. Loaded with lots of information, we set off again through a partly open valley, past the Birkmühle mill. Shortly before we reach the Pulgermühle mill, we turn left and follow the path uphill for approx. 50m to the road, which we cross carefully. After a further 500m along the forest path, we enter the Flaumbach valley and walk for approx. 900m through a partly open valley until we reach the "Flaumbach ". We keep to the left and walk along a narrow path for approx. 300m, almost walking in the water, until we cross the Flaumbach over an impressive bridge. Continuing through the quiet valley, we approach the first via ferrata of our dream loop after approx. 200m. The possible bypass continues through the valley to the "Schafsbrücke" bridge. Those who are not afraid of the via ferrata will be rewarded at the top with a magnificent view over the Flaumbach valley. After the descent on the other side of the "Burgberg ", climbers also reach the "Schafsbrücke". Now we enter the forest and hike uphill on the historic Celtic trail for approx. 300m until we reach a crossroads. This is the start of the second via ferrata on the route. We make our way through young mixed forest along a narrow path for approx. 300m to the foot of the small pulpit, where we then ascend on crampons embedded in the rock. It is also possible to bypass the climb here. Once at the top, we enjoy another beautiful view. After resting, we continue slowly uphill for about 100m until we turn right onto a path. On soft, leaf-covered forest paths, we hike another 300m uphill to reach the large pulpit. Another sensory bench, several benches and a hut invite you to linger. Everyone should enjoy the view over the Flaumbach valley here once again. After this break, the route continues along narrow paths to the third via ferrata, which leads down a ladder to the old slate tunnels. After the slate tunnels, which served as shelters during the Second World War, the path climbs slightly and leads past a wetland biotope. After crossing the main road, we reach the Liesenich portal via a path. Here too, a sensory bench invites us to take a break. The last part of the hike is effortless on quiet country lanes past a fish pond to the starting point at the Mittelstrimmig portal.

Safety Guidelines

All Traumschleifen have some steep, difficult and slippery passages in rainy or winter weather. Hiking boots, sure-footedness and a good level of fitness are therefore essential for hiking these premium circular hiking trails.

This dream loop is not accessible in ice and snow.

Three climbing passages require a head for heights. These via ferratas can also be bypassed.

Equipment

Sturdy footwear (hiking boots) is strongly recommended.
