The Lieserpfad leads over a distance of 74 kilometres through a varied landscape. The last section of the 4th stage leads from the Eifel down into the Moselle valley.
The last section of Lieserpfad stage 4 "Wittlich-Lieser" opens up the lower Lieser valley, where vineyards appear again and announce the proximity of the Moselle valley. From Platten, the hiker uses the "Maare-Mosel" cycle path for another 1.7 km, shortly before the cycle path bridge over the Lieserbach, a small path then leads up to a forest path, which is followed to Noviand. Through the district of Noviand (the double municipality of Maring-Noviand), the path continues to "Maringer Schweiz", which refers to a hillside forest on the lower Lieserbach. The Lieserpfad winds its way through this hillside forest to where the stream flows into the Moselle.
General information
Directions
The "Maare-Mosel-Radweg" crosses the "Trierer Straße" in the village of Platten. Follow the cycle path in the direction of Bernkastel-Kues for approx. 1.7 kilometres. Shortly before the cycle path passes the bridge over the Lieserbach, a small path branches off to the right, leading uphill to a forest path. Follow this forest path until you reach the village of Noviand. The trail zigzags through the village, then continues across the meadow past a farm. You reach the "Maringer Schweiz", the wooded steep slope on the lower Lieserbach. First you enjoy a beautiful valley view of Maring (Maring-Noviand is a double municipality) with the church and the "Honigberg" vineyard in the background. Then it's time to take the "Lieserpfad" literally - the name says it all. On narrow paths, elevated above the stream valley, you hike on to where the Lieser flows into the Moselle. It is now not far to the Moselle community of the same name.
