One of the highest points in our collective municipality is located "way up high" on the Macken district. Due to the exposed location, the "fern Sehen" (long-distance view) is also located way up here!
General information
Directions
From the parking lot near the "Forellenzucht" the path leaves the Baybach valley along the local stream through the forest to the Hunsrück heights with a moderate but steady ascent. After about 6 kilometers, the 'Otto-Andreas-Turm' is reached southwest of the village of Macken, whose silhouette is reflected in the symbol of the signposts. From the viewing platform at almost 400 m above sea level, there is a magnificent view over the Vorderhunsrück and the Moselle valley far into the Eifel. From here, the path goes almost only downhill. Past fields and scattered orchards, the path leads along the edge of the village, then back into the forest, past the old quarry and from there further into the valley to the Baybach near the confluence of the Eveshausen stream. The path continues downstream along the stream. On a section of the dream loop "Murscher Eselsche" you finally return to the starting point near the inn "Forellenzucht".
Safety Guidelines
For your own safety and the protection of flora and fauna, please always stay on the marked paths. The hiking trail has partly steep, difficult, and slippery sections in rainy or winter weather. Therefore, sure-footedness and good physical condition are essential prerequisites.
NOTE:
We strive to announce all closures caused by forestry work or hunting parties on this platform. Nevertheless, there are situations where hiking trails are closed and perhaps we have not been informed. Should you unexpectedly encounter a trail closure or detour, we ask you to observe the instructions for your own safety.
Hazard situations:
If an emergency occurs, quick help is needed. And even though mobile phones can send GPS signals, classical rescue points are often the fastest way. These are located at spots easily accessible to rescue vehicles. Remember the points with green signs and a white cross. In case of emergency, return there and provide the number on the sign during your emergency call. This way, rescuers know exactly where to find you.
Shelters are available at
km 2.5 (300 m northwest; N 50°10.64" , E 007° 22.68")
km 6.3 (on the path; N 50°10.16" , E 007° 23.60")
km 8.7 (on the path; N 50°10.21" , E 007° 24.48" )
There are 4 rescue points ('Help in the Forest') distributed along the entire route
Equipment
- Sturdy and comfortable footwear.
- Weather-appropriate clothing, if necessary in layers.
- Backpack with provisions: enough to drink and possibly food, as there are not always refreshment or shopping facilities available or open.
- Depending on the weather, sun or rain protection, as well as mosquito/tick protection.
Tip
Stopover at the Forellenzucht. Large beer garden open in summer.
With binoculars, much more interesting things can be discovered from the viewing platform in good weather than with the naked eye...
