E-bike circular route, nearly 20 km, along the Mosel: Kues - Wehlen - Kues plateau - Maring - Lieser
Scenic and varied route along the Mosel near Bernkastel-Kues with a steep climb over the Wehlen plateau. This plateau lies above the wine village of Wehlen. Cyclists enjoy, among other things, a great view of the "Wehlen sundial" - by the way, also the name of one of the most famous vineyards in the Mosel region. The route can be started from Kues, Wehlen, Kloster Siebenborn in Maring, or Lieser.
Insights into the cycling tour:
Starting in Kues, the route initially leads to Wehlen - here you can admire the only suspension bridge on the entire Mosel. The next stage is Dreifaltigkeit atop the Wehlen plateau. It is an old landmark, already used by the Celts. Through the vineyards, it then goes downhill into the Lieser valley and to Kloster Siebenborn. On the Maare-Mosel cycle path, it continues to the wine village Lieser and from there along the Mosel back to Kues.
General information
Directions
Several places are suitable as the starting point of the route: Kues, Wehlen, Kloster Siebenborn in Maring, and Lieser. For parking in Kues, the Mosel riverside or the parking garage is recommended. The route takes you from Kues along the Mosel cycle path downstream to Wehlen. Immediately after the Wehlen bridge, turn left and ride into the town. The bridge also offers the first opportunity to stop for refreshments. You pass through Wehlen a bit along the main street and turn left into the street "Am Krausbach" towards "Dreifaltigkeit." From now on, the route continuously climbs up to the Wehlen plateau. Shortly after a small animal paddock, leave the main route to the left towards "Dreifaltigkeit," further onto the plateau. Once at the top, cross the plateau (about 200m) and continue right along the edge of the slope to Dreifaltigkeit. Dreifaltigkeit is an old landmark, already used by the Celts. Today, a large sacrificial altar and a barbecue hut are located at this distinctive point. Here you have also reached the highest point of the route. From Dreifaltigkeit, you ride steadily downhill through vineyards into the Lieser valley. Once down, you reach Kloster Siebenborn and the Maare-Mosel cycle path. Now follow the Maare-Mosel cycle path to the mouth of the Lieser into the Mosel, where you rejoin the Mosel cycle path. Along this, passing the wine village Lieser (with numerous places to stop), you return back to Kues.
