A short and flat circular route through the former County of Veldenz. This includes the towns of Mülheim, Brauneberg, Wintrich, Burgen, Veldenz, and Gornhausen.

A relatively short and flat circular route through large parts of the former County of Veldenz in the "most beautiful side valley of the Mosel".

The start point of the bike tour is the Mosel town of Mülheim. The Mosel community is surrounded by vineyards, fields, and meadows at the confluence of two streams and on the Mosel (115 m above sea level) at the foot of an oxbow hill.

Insights into the bike tour:

From Mülheim, a slightly elevated vineyard path leads to Veldenz. Towards Thalveldenz, there is a magnificent view of Veldenz Castle, which as the former ancestral home of the Counts of Veldenz still reminds of the great history of the county. In fact, it was a castle, but due to its size – it was the largest castle on the Middle Mosel in the 15th century – it was also called a castle palace. Afterwards, the route goes to Burgen. The idyllic town is often called the "Little Venice of the Mosel" because of its total of 19 bridges. In the further course of the route, it goes to Brauneberg, from where the Mosel cycle path then leads back to Mülheim.

General information

Directions

The route starts in Mülheim and takes you slightly elevated via vineyard paths through the former Mosel valley to Veldenz. Through Veldenz, you follow a short stretch into the Hinterbach valley towards Thalveldenz. The view opens up to the Hinterbach valley. Wild rock formations in the dense forest of the steep slopes frame the imposing Veldenz Castle. Veldenz Castle, the ancestral home of the Counts of Veldenz, dominates the region from a rugged mountain ridge and still reminds of the great history of the County of Veldenz. The partially preserved buildings give an impression of how impressive this castle complex once was. Leaving the Hinterbach valley and Veldenz Castle behind you, you ride through Veldenz, leave the town on district road K 89 towards Burgen, which you reach after just a few kilometers.
Burgen, which is just as romantically beautiful as Veldenz, is often called the “Little Venice of the Middle Mosel” because of its total of 19 bridges. You leave the wine town towards Hirzlei and enter the Frohnbach valley for a short distance, before looping back to Burgen. You pass through it and turn onto an asphalted farm road at the exit of Burgen, which leads towards Brauneberg and Mülheim. Upon arrival in Brauneberg, you must cross the B53 to reach the Mosel cycle path. You then follow this for a short distance back to Mülheim.
