An e-bike tour up into the vineyards - in combination with routes on the "Maare-Mosel-Radweg" and "Moselradweg".
Vines galore ! Suitable for e-bike beginners as a taster tour as well as for sporty touring cyclists, with great views of the Moselle valley, the winegrowing villages and the vineyards of the region.Insights into the tour:The short circular tour starts in the district of Kues, leads into a glacial valley of the Moselle, then along a former railway line (part of the "Maare-Mosel-Radweg") back to the present-day course of the Moselle. The "Moselradweg" (main route) then follows the banks of the Moselle from Mülheim back to Bernkastel-Kues. Along the cycle route there are great views and nice places to stop in the Moselle villages of Kues, Lieser, Maring-Noviand, Mülheim, Andel and Bernkastel. One of the highlights along the way is the detour to "Heldensicht" - the "Most Beautiful Wine View 2020" in the Moselle wine-growing region. You can also look forward to a water treading basin at the Siebenborn Monastery, which provides refreshment especially on hot summer days.
General information
Directions
You start from the bus station in the Kues district. The tour leads along the former railway track to the outskirts of the town and then up into the vineyards. Immediately, there are magnificent views of the Moselle valley. There is a special panorama from the "Heldensicht" (Hero's View), which was voted the "Most Beautiful Wine View 2020" of the Moselle region in a public online vote on the website of the German Wine Institute (DWI). A detour to it is signposted along the way. After you have reached the outskirts of Lieser, there is another climb to contend with. It goes up to the Paulskirche. Until the 16th century, it was the religious centre of fourteen villages and a much-visited pilgrimage destination. On 8 Oct. 1848, one of the largest rallies in the Rhine province took place here with 15,000 people. The valley at the foot of the church is a glacial valley of the Moselle (i.e. the Moselle flowed along here in prehistoric times before forming a different river bed further south). Continue to the former Siebenborn Monastery, where you meet the "Maare-Mosel-Radweg". The monastery is now a winery and the monastery mill houses a restaurant. A water treading basin also invites you to take a break. You then continue the tour on the lower section of the "Maare-Mosel-Radweg" and turn left at the sawmill. The cycle path accompanies the Lieserbach to its confluence with the Moselle and passes the district of Maring. At the mouth of the Lieser, take the feeder road to the Moselle bridge and cross over to Mülheim. Through the village, follow the cycle path signs towards Bernkastel-Kues. It leads onto the main route of the "Moselradweg". Via the district of Andel you reach Bernkastel-Kues and the starting point of the tour.
