This nearly 30 km long circular route leads on the Moselle cycle path from Bernkastel-Kues to Wolf; on the way back, it goes through the forest, past the settlement of Koppelberg and the Graach ramparts.

Magnificent panoramic views of the Moselle, Eifel, and Hunsrück!

Insights into the cycling tour:

The tour from Bernkastel-Kues leads over the Graach sheep pasture into the deep forests of the Hunsrück, offering a first-class Moselle panorama. Through the Graach sheep pasture (the hillside part of the Mosel town Graach), the tour climbs up to the height of the Graach ramparts. The Graach ramparts are remnants of a defensive fortification from the 18th century. Prussian and Austrian troops entrenched here against invading French revolutionary armies. In the Hunsrück, the towns of Longkamp and Monzelfeld are among the "stopover destinations"; additionally, the new Moselle bridge can be admired. Wolf on the Moselle is a district of Traben-Trarbach. The ruins of the former nunnery, high above the town, are an ideal place for a break; the view over the Moselle is magnificent. Along the Moselle cycle path, the tour leads over Lösnich, Zeltingen-Rachtig, and Graach back to Bernkastel-Kues.

General information

Directions

The Mosel forecourt in Bernkastel-Kues is recommended as a starting point. If you choose Bernkastel-Kues as your starting point, the route immediately leads steadily uphill out of the Moselle valley up onto the Mosel promontory between Bernkastel and Trarbach. The ascent is considerable and prolonged, but it is also the only one on the entire route. During the climb through the vineyards, you can enjoy great views of the Moselle valley and Bernkastel-Kues. History is not neglected either: among other things, you will pass the "Bulles" (the former prison) and the St. Joseph's Chapel. Then you leave the vineyards towards the Graach sheep pasture.
Through the Graach sheep pasture (the hillside part of the Mosel town Graach) - with a short pushing section at the outskirts, continue riding on a well-developed road up to the height of the Graach ramparts. The Graach ramparts are remnants of a defensive fortification from the 18th century. Once at the top, you have an excellent view into the Eifel and Hunsrück. Then you cycle continuously downhill, back to the Moselle at Wolf. From there, you continue on the Moselle cycle path upstream towards Bernkastel. On the Moselle cycle path, you pass the Moselle villages Kinheim, Lösnich, Erden, Zeltingen-Rachtig, and Graach, where numerous dining opportunities are located directly on the cycle path.

Safety Guidelines

Please note that the route is not signposted. Except for a short section at the height of the Mosel promontory, everything is paved. In the Graach sheep pasture, there is a short section of about 30 meters where the bike should be pushed due to the steepness and narrow path.

Equipment

The route should be manageable with an eBike (fully charged battery) despite the considerable climb out of the Moselle valley. For sporty cyclists, a trekking bike is recommended.
