Where Reformation and Revolution made history.
Many small villages around the Hunsrück town of Kleinich have formed a parish, the evangelical "Kirchspiel" Kleinich, since the Reformation. The name remained common until today, even when after the French Revolution the civil municipal structure emerged and the Kirchspiel became the community of Kleinich. Neat, slate-clad farms and houses characterize these villages. They are spread four to five hundred meters above the Mosel in a hilly, open landscape, occasionally interrupted by densely wooded stream valleys. The ups and downs of hill and valley with great panoramic views and the sound of water make a hike on the 13-kilometer-long detour "Kirchspiel's Tälertour" extremely appealing.
General information
Directions
One of the starting points of the approximately 13 km long hike through the Kirchspiel Kleinich is located at the Evangelical Church Kleinich. Due to the special location of the church, you will still see the church tower from several points on the circular route. As with many churches in the Hunsrück, there is also a Stumm organ here.
The Moselsteig detour "Kirchspiel's Tälertour" first leads a piece through the village. The former farmhouses are partially beautifully renovated. From the edge of the village, the field path slowly rises through the open fields. The view extends far over the heights and especially to the west you look over meadows and fields to the summits of the Vulkaneifel on the horizon. At the edge of the forest, you reach the highest point of the entire round. You can surely use the bench for a short break and enjoy the view back to Kleinich.
Now the detour leads into the valley. First still along the edge of the forest, then over a path through the spruce forest directly to the stream. Here it is shady and cool on a hot summer day. The route crosses the babbling stream and continues downhill on the forest path on the other side. After a side valley, the path rises again and you reach a terrain edge, which is bordered by interestingly grown oaks. The route now leads completely out of the valley. If you can look over the summit from the reached meadow area, you can see Emmeroth, whose houses nestle in a hollow. The path leads directly into the village. At the edge of the village, there are some new houses, but in the village center, the old half-timbered houses have been preserved, partly still with the paved courtyards.
On a level meadow path, the route leads out of the village. From this path, you have a view of the church tower of the Kleinich church and over the valley to Fronhofen, which the detour reaches later on. From the driveway, a path branches off that leads steeply up the ridge. Through the birch forest, you reach the summit of the Kordelberg, where there is also a barbecue hut and resting facilities. Then it goes steeply down to Pilmeroth, on the edge of which stands an impressive old oak. Past the cattle scale and the well, the path quickly returns to the surrounding meadows and fields. From here, you have a wide view towards the Mosel and the deeply incised valleys of Kautenbach, Trabener Bach and Ilsbach.
The detour now leads into the Ilsbach valley via a forest path. The last stretch to the stream is really steep. Even here, the path is repeatedly lined with large quartzite blocks. The path accompanies the stream, which here flows sparkling over small rock steps towards the Mosel. On the other side of the path, the Bildstein rock rises. A wildly romantic place.
The path changes the side of the stream and the following section continues downstream with a beautiful view of the water. Entrances to slate caves and remains of a mill remind us that the valley was not always used only for recreational purposes. The detour changes from the Trabener Bach valley to the valley of the Kautenbach. The paved road now rises slightly. After changing the side of the valley, the path meanders again through the forest with visual contact to the stream. The route of the detour also touches the track of an old path connection, which led from the Mosel valley towards the Hunsrück. A breakthrough was made through the rock for this path. A very impressive geological exposure. With a pleasant incline, the path continues through the forest up the slope. The view opens up to Fronhofen, which is located almost at the top of the ridge. Continuing to rise, you finally reach the village, which the path only touches. At the edge of the village, you have finally returned to the height and can let your gaze wander over large parts of the distance covered. But beyond that, views deep into the Eifel are also possible here.
Via a level meadow path, you then reach the road between Fronhofen and Kleinich. Along the road, the path leads comfortably back to the starting point, not without a good view of the church tower of Kleinich, where the detour "Kirchspiel's Tälertour" began.

In the rocky sections, increased attention is required when wet. The stream crossings on the stepping stones can be impossible during high water.
