Varied and eventful approx. 30 km long circular route with single trails over the vineyards north of the Mosel near Schweich, Mehring, Pölich, Ensch & Bekond.
Since 2003, the Roman Wine Route holiday region has offered mountain bikers in the region a mountain bike trail network of more than 200 km. Guarantees for a nature- and environmentally-friendly as well as sportily attractive route design were the intensive cooperation of the Trier Forestry Office, which developed the route proposals, as well as individual mountain bikers from the racing scene, who approved the sportive attractiveness of the routes. A total of 5 routes were marked with lengths between 27.9 and 76.3 km. That you do not necessarily have to go to the Alps to find an interesting mountain biking area is also demonstrated by the height differences recorded during the individual routes. Elevation differences to be overcome vary from 718 m up to 2119 m. The individual routes, which run over the foothills of the Eifel and Hunsrück, offer plenty of variety, always provide breathtaking views into the Mosel valley, and, as circular routes, also lead foreign mountain bikers safely back to the starting point. The routes partly pass through the world-famous vineyards Thörnicher Ritsch and Klüsserather Bruderschaft. Holiday atmosphere comes up when enjoying the beautiful landscape and at the end of a route compensating for the loss of fluids at the "après-bike."

Safety Guidelines
Nature and mountain biking
It is the greatest happiness for mountain bikers, away from the traffic noise of busy roads, even off heavily frequented bike paths, to enjoy the charms of nature and landscape, the quiet of the forests and the diversity of open countryside.
Using nature, whether as a solitary touring cyclist or as a participant in a training group, must be combined with the awareness that misconduct can cause damage to forests and fields, flora, and fauna.
Reasonable general behavior and a few basic rules ensure that mountain biking does not become a nuisance.
Equipment
A functional mountain bike and a bicycle helmet should of course be part of the standard equipment.
Tip
The mountain bike trail park in Mehring has offered a mega experience since 2013, making every mountain biker's heart beat faster.
Public transit
DB route Trier-Koblenz to Schweich station.
From Schweich station follow the hiking Moselsteig signs towards Mehring to the hiking & mountain bike parking lot at the reservoir above the motorway underpass Schweich (approx. 2.1 km).
Maps
Mountain bike map VG Schweich
The Schweich collective municipality has specially marked five routes for forest and meadow cyclists. From the airy high route above the Mosel loop to the circular route through the Meulenwald - there is something for every taste. All routes are of medium difficulty and are suitable both for beginners and demanding riders. The latter will appreciate numerous alternative sections that give the standard stages the necessary bite. The maps include a brief description of the route, the obligatory elevation profile, and a map of the route course. Thanks to the map, nearby entry points can also be found quickly - the five circular routes can be tackled at different places along the Mosel.
The price is 5.00 €.

Schweich (Mosel). With the latest MOSEL hiking map entitled "Holiday Region Schweich on the Roman Wine Route," the Eifel Association supplements its series of hiking maps on the Mosel with now the fourth hiking map at a scale of
1:25,000. This hiking map series, published by the Eifel Association in cooperation with Moselland Tourism and the tourist information offices of the affected municipalities, will complete the Eifel Association's map collection after all MOSEL hiking maps are completed with the Mosel run in the southeast.
The new hiking map replaces, with a slightly altered sheet format, the previously issued and now outdated hiking map "Neumagen-Dhron, Schweich on the Roman Wine Route" by the State Office for Surveying and Geobasis Information Rhineland-Palatinate. Hikers will be reliably guided with the new hiking map on hiking tours in the holiday region Schweich along the Moselsteig, Saar-Hunsrück-Steig, side trails, and dream loops. The Meulenwald hiking area is also depicted on the map.
With Moselsteig and Saar-Hunsrück-Steig, two long-distance hiking trails awarded as "Germany's most beautiful hiking trail" pass through the holiday region Schweich on the Roman Wine Route. Not only with the attached circular hiking trails named "side trail" and "dream loop" does the holiday region Schweich on the Roman Wine Route form an extensive and varied hiking trail network. This hiking trail network is complemented by sections of the Eifelsteig with two partner routes, the Moselhöhenweg, as well as other main hiking trails of the Eifel Association and numerous regional hiking trails, also included on the new hiking map. Selected are also some cycle touring routes as well as five mountain bike routes on the Roman Wine Route shown on the map.
Despite the extensive hiking and leisure offerings depicted on the map, the Moselsteig stages 5, 6, 7, and 8 as well as the five side trails "Longuicher Sauerbrunnen," "Zitronenkrämerkreuz," "Mehringer Schweiz," "Klüsserather Sagenweg," and "Moselachter" form the core of this new hiking map. Especially the four Moselsteig stages and the five side trails are not only described bilingually in the interior of the hiking map but also display elevation profiles and provide information on the difficulty level of the hike.
The basis of this detailed hiking map is the official topographic map 1:25,000 of the State Office for Surveying and Geobasis Information Rhineland-Palatinate. The map costs a uniform price of 7.90 EUR and is available at the Tourist Information Roman Wine Route, Brückenstraße 46, 54338 Schweich, at Moselland Tourism, in bookstores, and of course also at the Eifel Association e.V., Stürtstraße 2-6 in 52349 Düren. The map can also be ordered online around the clock at www.eifelverein.de . ISBN: 978-3-944620-13-8.
