A circular hike through a historic mill valley: mostly walking on forest and meadow paths. Open forests and fields guarantee wide views into the Eifel region.
One climb, pretty much in the middle of the otherwise rather leisurely route: despite the length of 11.5 kilometers.
Insights into the hiking tour:
Right at the beginning of the hike in Longkamp is the local history museum - a mill museum that tells the story of the formerly numerous mills in the area and thus documents a piece of local history in its own unique way. The hike goes through the so-called Longkamp mill valley: along the Trabener Bach the path passes six historical mills, whose wheels were still in operation until the 1960s. Today the mills are used as holiday homes. Beech forests, open field landscapes and views far into the Hunsrück and Eifel regions characterize the 11.5 km long hiking path.
There are inns on the route for food and drink - otherwise take backpack provisions and enjoy them on benches along the route.
General information
Directions
Starting point of the "Mühlenweg" is the village fountain at the "Gott". Going downhill via Kleinicher Straße, keep left and reach Johannisstraße. At the intersection with Kleinicher Straße is the local history museum, attached to the Barbara Mill, built in 1947. After a few meters you leave the village and follow the asphalted farm road on the right side. Past the "Duppisch-Wäldchen" you reach the valley floor and cross the Waschbach. You pass the grill hut located in the forest on the right side of the Longkamp local community and come across a pasture. There you leave the tarmac road and orient yourself left towards "Rammersberg". After about one kilometer you reach a nicely located viewpoint overlooking the Kautenbach valley. The Mühlenweg then leads you onto an asphalted street. After a few meters you pass the Zimmer family estate and reach the so-called "Kaisergarten". This also offers shaded resting opportunities. Behind the Kaisergarten, keep left and hike in the direction of Mühlental. In the order named, you pass the Conradsmühle, the Wagner Mill, the Andreas Mill, the Olk Mill, the Hornes Mill, and the Schmitz Mill before reaching and crossing the connecting road between Longkamp and Kleinich. After about 300 meters you pass the Kommen Mill, idyllically located and surrounded by herb meadows. Afterwards, it goes steeply uphill out of the Mühlental and after about 500 meters you reach the road that leads towards Kommen. There, keep right, with continuous beautiful views over Longkamp up to the Eifel - and in good visibility even to the "Hohe Acht" at the Nürburgring. Then you reach the town of Kommen and the path leads past a small chapel. You leave Kommen and pass some horse stables on the left side. At the entrance to Longkamp you see the chapel built in 1775. Via Bernkasteler Straße - past the town hall of the Longkamp community - and via Andreasstraße you return to our starting point.
