This varied and moderately difficult circular hiking route leads through the scenic landscape around the Pellingen plateau.
Exciting cultural and scenic highlights await on the way. Right at the start, the old "hunting lodge", a converted railway carriage from the post-war period, invites you to rest with a view of Schodener Kopf. Finds from the year 275 AD recall an ancient military road and its destruction by the Alemanni.
At km 4, there is a view of the last vineyard of the "Pellinger Herrgottsrock" wine site, followed by a wide view of the Irminenwingert/Köllersch, once the site of significant wineries. Other highlights include the view of Scharzberg, the relief of the Roman road at Langenstein, and the view of the Pellingen heath, known for rare orchids and a unique moss species that occurs only in three places in Germany.
General information
Directions
This varied circular hiking route covers approx. 7 km through the charming landscape around the Pellingen plateau.
The path starts at the sports field in Pellingen and runs over natural and gravel paths as well as small trails.
Along the route there are numerous cultural and scenic sights. Right at the beginning, the old "hunting lodge" is reached, an old railway carriage that served as living space after the Second World War and now offers an idyllic seating area with a view of Schodener Kopf. Shortly afterwards, the path passes the site of a "Villa Rustica", where a Roman lance tip and charcoal remnants from the year 275 AD were discovered.
Another highlight is the view of the last remaining vineyard of the "Pellinger Herrgottsrock" site, reflecting the region's long history of viticulture. From here, there is a wide view of the Irminenwingert/Köllersch, where once an important winery of the Irminen was located.
The path also opens up impressive panoramic views, including of the distinctive Scharzberg and into the Saargau. At Langenstein there is a relief of the old Roman road: a Roman milestone that was still mentioned by historians from Trier in the 19th century.
From this point offers an impressive view of the Pellingen heath, a botanically valuable area where rare orchid species and an endemic moss species grow, occurring only at three locations in Germany.
