Paddling experience from Konz-Könen through the picturesque wine landscape to Schoden and back through the impressive Wiltinger Saarbogen nature reserve.

On a canoe tour with Kanu SaarFari on the Saar, you will discover the scenic beauty of the Saar valley in a completely new way. This round trip leads from Konz-Könen via the Saar Canal upstream to Schoden. It is worth taking a break there before continuing through the Wiltinger Saarbogen. With its lively rapids, the Wiltinger Saarbogen, which is a nature reserve, is considered by many to be the most beautiful section of the Saar. The landscape experience is unique, as you pass river cots, fields of water lilies, shields and reedbeds as well as kingfishers. From Kanzem, the route continues downstream on the Saar Canal with the current back to the starting point in Konz-Könen.

General information

Directions

Canoe tour without a guide from Konz-Könen - Schoden - Wiltinger Saarbogen - Kanzem back to Konz-Könen.

Level of difficulty: low to medium flow speed, partly shipping lane, first canoeing experience and good physical condition required.

On a canoe tour with Kanu SaarFari on the Saar, you will discover the scenic beauty of the Saar valley in a whole new way. The adventure tour starts at the canoe station on the banks of the Saar in Konz-Könen. Firstly, you travel upstream to Schoden. On the way, the statue of St Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors, greets you from the banks of the Saar in Konz-Hamm. After loading the boats onto the canoe trolley and rounding the Kanzem lock, the route continues to Schoden. Here you can take a short break before entering the most beautiful section of the tour through the Wiltinger Saarbogen. Between Schoden and the Kanzem lock, the Saar is almost untouched. The Wiltinger Saarbogen, which is a nature conservation area, provides a real boost to the canoe trip with its lively rapids. The landscape experience is unique, as you pass river cots, water lily fields, reeds and reed beds and, with a bit of luck, you may even spot kingfishers.

Further downstream, the statue of St Nicholas greets you again in Konz-Hamm. The canoe tour continues to Konz-Könen. The starting point is reached here.

Safety Guidelines

Preserve and protect nature!

- As canoeists, we love nature, want to protect it, preserve it and set an example for others.

- In order to avoid trampling damage, we only start and stop at specially designated entry and exit points.

- We do not paddle our boats into reed beds, reed beds or pond and water lily areas so that the plants are not destroyed.

- To avoid disturbing waterfowl and other river dwellers, we do not paddle too close to the animals and stay away from nesting sites and retreat areas and keep as quiet as possible.

- We make sure that no plastic bottles or other rubbish fall into the river.

- For species conservation reasons, pets are not permitted in the boat in the nature reserve.

What do I need to bear in mind?

- The Saar is a major shipping route and, as in road traffic, there is an absolute ban on drugs and alcohol!

- For their own safety, canoe tour participants should be able to swim. Children under the age of 12 should be accompanied by an adult for their first canoeing experience.

- Our life jackets are very comfortable and do not hinder paddling. They provide buoyancy in the event of capsizing and protect against cold and injury. Even very good swimmers wear a buoyancy aid with us.

- Large vessels always have right of way. To avoid being surprised by a large push boat, canoeists always paddle on the edge of the big river.

- Prohibited and life-threatening areas, e.g. in front of weirs, are marked with a red-white-red sign. These areas must be avoided on a large scale.
