Soothing forests and beautiful brook valleys, that's what we experience on the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig between Blankenrath, Mittelstrimmig and Mörsdorf.

The first part of the leg passes through a hilly and quiet wooded landscape and we cross two idyllic stream valleys. Then the route goes over a ridge used for agriculture that offers grandiose views of the Eifel and Hunsrück.

After crossing the L202, the path runs parallel to the “Layensteig Strimmiger Berg” Traumschleife (Dream Loop). Once past the villages of Mittelstrimmig and Altstrimmig, it goes downhill into the beautiful scenery of the Bildbach stream valley that merges with the Mörsdorfer Bach valley. There the route cuts through a deeply etched, quiet valley along the Mörsdorfer Bach. There is a path that goes 1.5 km uphill to the destination Mörsdorf.

General information

Equipment

The Saar-Hunsrück Climb is a natural path that is on soft forest floor, grass paths or alongside streams for 65% of its route. But this special quality can result in problems after long periods of rain, making parts of the route difficult to walk. We therefore recommend wearing sturdy shoes.

Tip

Roman excavations near Mittelstrimmig

Near Mittelstrimmig the remains of a Roman settlement (vicus) were found during excavations. It was on an important Celtic-Roman road.

"Schockkapelle” at Mittelstrimmig

It stands on the route of the gallows of the Winneberg-Beilstein counts from the Middle Ages. Those sentenced to death were led past the chapel to the gallows in the Middle Ages.

The Mittelstrimmig parish church, a three-aisled, five-bay hall church, was built between 1766 and 1769.

Geierlay suspension bridge - the most beautiful suspension bridge in Germany is connected to the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig via an access path. 360 meters long and 100 meters high above the Mörsdorfer Bachtal between the communities of Sosberg and Mörsdorf, the bridge is an attraction for adventurers and those with a head for heights.
