The Saar-Hunsrück-Steig between Sohren (North), Hahn, and Altlay is easy to walk due to its length and few ascents.
After crossing the B 50, the stage leads to a great viewpoint with views of the Idarkopf and surroundings. Passing an old Jewish cemetery, the path goes through forest to the geographical centre of Rhineland-Palatinate with resting facilities.
After a beautiful forest section, we cross the L 193. On the other side, the path leads us to a plateau, which offers an outstanding panoramic view of the entire Hunsrück up to the Moselle Valley.
At another viewpoint, we can see the runway of Hahn Airport and, with some luck, watch planes land right in front of us.
Then, the path descends into a quiet, rustic stream valley with beautiful forest stands. After a short climb, we reach the destination Altlay.

Equipment
The Saar-Hunsrück-Steig is a nature-close path that is 65% over soft forest ground, grassy paths, or along streams. However, this special quality can lead to problems after long rainy periods and make parts of the path difficult to walk. Therefore, sturdy footwear is highly recommended.
