Saar-Obermosel-Tour

The tour starts in Saarburg and first takes you along Hecking- and Graf-Siegfried-Straße to the B 407, where you cycle along a separate cycle lane along the B 407 to Trassem. Once you have crossed the town, turn into Leuktalstraße and follow the road along the course of the stream to Kollesleuken. After a short stretch on the L133, turn left onto a country lane shortly before leaving Kollesleuken. After about 2 km, follow the dirt road to the left in the direction of Hof Spirkelsbach and from there on to Faha.

From there, follow the Saarlandradweg uphill towards Münzingen. After 1.5 km, cross the B 407 and continue along the Saarlandradweg. After another 2.2 km, cross the B 406 and follow the Saarland Cycle Path further downhill to Butzdorf and Tettingen. Leave Tettingen on Bescher Straße and cycle on to Nennig. In Nennig, you first cycle along the Römerstraße. Here it is worth making a detour to the Roman Villa (Römerstraße 11). Here you can see a magnificent mosaic floor, which is one of the most spectacular of its kind north of the Alps. You then continue the cycle tour along Römerstraße and Martinusstraße. At the end of Martinusstraße, turn left into Berger Weg and after approx. 150 m turn right into Wieser Straße. At the end of the road, follow the B 419 to the traffic circle. Take the second exit in the direction of Remich (Lux). After about 300 m, turn right at Caming Mosella Rothaus and follow the cycle path to the Moselle.

From the banks of the Moselle in Nennig, the route continues along the Moselle cycle path to Konz. The Moselle Cycle Path was first assessed by the German Cyclists' Federation (ADFC) in 2024 and officially awarded the ADFC's four-star quality cycle route rating. On this section, you will pass idyllic wine villages such as Palzem, Wehr, Wincheringen, Nittel, Wellen, Temmels, Oberbillig and Wasserliesch. You always have the neighboring country of Luxembourg and the vineyards in view. Once you arrive in Konz, the rest area at the mouth of the Saar invites you to take a leisurely break.

The route continues on the right-hand side of the Saar along the Saar Cycle Path to Saarburg. On this section, you cycle on a flat stretch along the river via the villages of Könen and Biebelhausen to your destination of Saarburg. On this tour, you will pass famous Saar vineyards and enjoy the view of the sea of vines.

Alternatively, you can also cycle from Konz on the left-hand side of the Saar. After the villages of Filzen and Hamm, you reach Kanzem and cycle along the oxbow lake of the Saar for a while. From Kanzem, you can either follow the oxbow lake towards Wiltingen or cycle towards the Kanzem barrage and continue along the Saarweg to Schoden and via Ockfen to your destination in Saarburg.

- Oberbillig: Am Fähranleger, Moselstraße

- Saarburg: At the boat landing stage (in the immediate vicinity of the Saar cycle path), at the Boemundhof, at the Cityparkplatz/Haus der Vereine, at the chairlift valley station and at the Geschwister-Scholl-Schule BBS (Boorwiese 11)

- Wincheringen: Am Markt bus stop

Important note:

This suggested route runs along various supra-regional cycle paths in the Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland regions. There is no standardized signposting for the route.

You can reach Saarburg from Trier or Saarbrücken via the B 51, or from Hermeskeil or Perl via the B 407.

Free and all-day parking is available in Saarburg at the parking lot between the swimming pool and opposite the entrance to the REWE supermarket.

Paid or time-limited parking is available at the city parking lot (with a day ticket), Heckingplatz, Fruchtmarkt, the parking deck behind the town hall, the parking deck at Kunoweiher and at the train station (with a day ticket).
