Where steam locomotives used to puff, you now cycle through the unique volcanic landscape of the Eifel all the way to the Moselle Valley.
You start in Daun and initially cycle along the Maare-Moselle cycle path to Wittlich (about 43 km). The cycle path on an old railway track connects the volcanic nature of the Eifel with the Mediterranean flair of the Moselle region. Effortlessly you can glide downhill and be distracted by numerous cycling adventure loops to the maars, a lava bomb, a bell foundry, to monasteries, tobacco farmers or to the charming old town of Wittlich. The little river Lieser crosses your path again and again, you go over viaducts and through tunnels.
In Wittlich you have a choice: Either you take the train back to Cochem from here or you extend your route further via the "Wittlicher Senke Cycle Path" to Schweich.
Over a further 30 kilometers you cycle through the gently hilly landscape of the Wittlicher Senke. The Wittlicher Senke is the northeastern continuation of the Trier valley, bounded to the northwest by the Meulenwald and to the southeast by the Moselle hills. Due to this protected location, tobacco can even be grown here. The cycle path leads you past small villages such as Dreis, Salmtal, Esch or Hetzerath until you finally reach the town of Schweich. From here the train takes you back to your starting point Cochem.
Along the route, numerous rest stops invite you to catch your breath and take a break.
