This suggested tour around the Morscheider Grenzpfad features the Riveris Dam and fantastic views. It’s ideal for those who find the “Traumschleife” (Dream Loop), at just under 16 km, too long.
The hike along narrow meadow and forest trails winds through mostly undisturbed tranquility along the Morscheider Grenzpfad “Dream Loop.”
Several lookout points offer good views of the Riveris Dam, built between 1954 and 1958. The dam is 178 meters wide and rises 50 meters high. From a sensory bench, you can enjoy a view of the Ruwa Valley. After passing through the Morscheider municipal forest, you’ll reach an old, gnarled oak tree. From another sensory bench there—nestled between a meadow grove and the forest—you’ll have a good view of the Ruwa Valley, the Moselle Valley, and the Eifel.
After 7 km on the “Traumschleife,” we leave the trail and head straight back along a farm road to the hiking parking lot at the Schweinspielhütte.

Directions
From the parking lot above Morscheid, we reach the trailhead of the “Traumschleife” via a 150-meter-long access path. Here we also join the Saar-Hunsrück Steig premium long-distance hiking trail, which accompanies us for the next 3.5 km. We follow the trail south and turn right after 400 m. We hike straight through the “Langenstein” quartzite cliffs—a natural monument—and reach a forest path. Following this path and another trail, we arrive at a forest road that leads us downhill to the Riveris Dam. A lookout point offers a good view of the dam and the Hochwald forest. We continue along the dam loop trail until, after about 500 m, we turn onto a forest path that leads us uphill. Shortly before reaching the plateau, we turn right and make our way through sparse woodland to a shelter in the Morscheider Hochwald. After crossing the road from Morscheid to Bonerath, we turn sharply left upon entering a small grove. After another stretch along a trail, we reach a rest area with a scenic view. The trail continues across meadows into the Morscheid community forest. After passing through this section of the forest, we reach another rest area with views of the Ruwe Valley and the Eifel. We continue hiking from here and reach a junction at km 7. Here, we take the farm road that turns right to return to the parking lot at the Schweinspiehlhütte.

Depending on the season and weather conditions, some sections of the trails require extra surefootedness. Therefore, please wear clothing appropriate for the season and weather, as well as hiking boots with adequate tread.
You are in the drinking water protection area of the Riveris Dam. Please observe the relevant guidelines.
Tip
Take a break on the large bench overlooking the lake just before you reach the dam again, and enjoy the panoramic view! Be sure to plan a rest stop here!
