Tatzelwurmweg Kobern-Gondorf

After a passage along the town center, you reach the legendary Hohesteinsbachtal at Glückskäulchen. The longer ascent through the forests of Buchhöll rewards you with natural paths, heavenly peace, and breathtaking views.

Behind the undulating high plateau of Rosenberg, it goes back down into the Hohesteinsbachtal to the springs and tunnel entrances that flow under the spur of the Matthias Chapel into the Mühltal. The game trail offers children (and also adults) entertaining distraction on the climb to the Matthias Chapel. Along the way of the cross, it continues to Niederburg with Moselle panorama, down into the Mühltal, and back to the town center and marketplace with Tatzelwurm.

For your own safety and for the protection of flora and fauna, please always stay on the marked paths. The hiking trail partly has steep, difficult, and slippery sections, especially in rain or winter weather. Therefore, surefootedness and good fitness are essential.

NOTE:

We strive to announce all closures caused by forest work or hunting groups on this platform. Nevertheless, there are situations where hiking trails are closed and we might not have been informed. If you unexpectedly encounter a trail closure or detour, please observe the instructions for your own safety.

Hazard situations:

In case of an emergency, quick help is needed. And even though mobile phones can send GPS signals, classic rescue points are often the fastest way. These are located at places easily accessible by rescue vehicles. Remember the points with green signs and a white cross. In emergencies, return there and give the number on the sign when calling for help. That way, rescuers know where to find you.

- Sturdy and comfortable footwear.

- Weather-appropriate clothing, possibly in layers.

- Backpack with provisions: Enough to drink and possibly food, as there are not everywhere opportunities to eat or shop or they may be closed.

- Depending on weather, sun or rain protection, as well as mosquito/tick protection.

Line services RB 81 or RE 1 Koblenz – Trier, several times daily,

Kobern-Gondorf station: from there about 800 meters on foot to the starting point at the marketplace
