Adventure in Europe’s steepest vineyard. The path leads over ladders past distinctive rock spurs. Steel cables provide support when crossing a rock ridge. Enjoy the magnificent panorama between the towns of Bremm and Ediger-Eller with views of the Stuben monastery ruins at the narrowest and most beautiful Mosel bend.
The highlight and insider tip at the same time is the CALMONT via ferrata, which leads you with partly alpine challenges between Eller and Bremm at 200 to 300 meters above the Mosel across Europe’s steepest vineyards. Great challenges await hiking and climbing enthusiasts.
The CALMONT via ferrata was constructed in 2002 as a joint project by the communities of Bremm, Ediger-Eller and Neef. The German Alpine Club secured the route with steel cables, ladders, as well as numerous steps and pegs, ensuring a safe ascent and descent.
For hiking and climbing tours in the CALMONT REGION, you need sturdy footwear, a head for heights and good physical condition. Rest and viewpoint huts are available at many points on the route. On hot summer days, a hike in the morning or early evening hours is recommended! Sufficient mineral water and headgear should not be missing in your backpack! In case of emergency, dial 112 and provide the caul number (where the monorack crosses the via ferrata, numbers are displayed; these help rescuers locate you in an emergency).

Directions
MAIN ROUTE:
The entry points of the via ferrata are located in Eller at the railway bridge and in Bremm above the church. The hike takes about three hours and also includes challenging sections that are excellently secured. From Eller, the route leads via the Galgenlay shelter to the Amphitrion viewpoint. Further along, you can branch off from the main route and ascend to the summit cross of the Calmont (with shelter). The main path leads slightly downhill from the junction to Bremm.
RETURN VIA THE CALMONT HEIGHTS.
From the Calmont summit cross, the Calmont ridgeway passes the Roman high sanctuary and the four-lake view at the Mosel ridge shelter back to Eller.
RETURN VIA THE MOSEL RIVERBANK.
From Bremm or Eller, there is the possibility to use the combined bike and footpath directly on the Mosel riverbank below the B 49 to Ediger-Eller or Bremm. Duration: about 30 minutes.
Safety Guidelines
After and during rain or snowfall or ice, special caution is required. Walk carefully, wear good footwear and avoid overestimating yourself and risky excursions.
Be sure to carry enough provisions (especially mineral water). However, watch the weight of your backpack. Take breaks, carry a mobile phone (for emergencies) and avoid hiking during thunderstorm risk.

Good footwear and weatherproof clothing are required for the hike.
