The hike is on farm and forest paths, later in the Tiefenbach valley.

A circular route over the Hunsrück heights and along the Tiefenbach.

The Tiefenbach valley is one of the charming side valleys of the Mosel. From Longkamp in the Hunsrück to Bernkastel-Kues on the Mosel, the Tiefenbach has carved its course into the slate rock. Near-natural deciduous forests such as oak dry forests and gorge forests give the Tiefenbach valley a wild-romantic character.

Insights into the hiking tour:

From the starting point at the village fountain, the path first leads through the quiet village, then over forest and meadow paths through a beautiful natural landscape. Along fruit tree avenues, with lovely views of Longkamp, Kommen, and the Mosel valley towards Monzelfeld. Benches for resting and relaxing are scattered along the way. Then follows a section through forest and meadow terrain that finally leads back to the starting point in Longkamp.

There are no dining possibilities along the route, but numerous benches and resting places await along the way.

General information

Directions

The Tiefenbach route starts at the St. Andreas fountain in the village center. The path leads you via Schulstraße to the primary school, where you turn left to the Bürgerpark, which with its old trees and shady seating areas offers the ideal ambiance to strengthen yourself for the upcoming hike. After crossing the park, turn left at the bus stop onto Bernkasteler Straße and after 100 meters uphill, turn right into "Am Hambuch" street. At the edge of the village, the hiking trail merges into a field path. You follow the field path straight ahead for about 1.5 km before the path turns into a meadow path. With the B50 construction site in sight, turn left and reach a paved farm road. Here, turn right and cross the bridge over the new B50. Along groves and fields as well as a fruit tree avenue, walk about 2 kilometers towards Monzelfeld. Along the way, there are views of the communities Longkamp and Kommen as well as the distant Mosel valley. At a resting bench with a view of Monzelfeld, leave the paved farm road and turn right downhill towards the Tiefenbach valley. Passing a Christmas tree farm, the route leads downhill—first through the forest, then over a meadow path. Then you reach the B50, which runs from Bernkastel to Longkamp. Along the guardrail, be cautious due to oncoming vehicles; after a few meters, follow a farm path that leads to the fish ponds of the Bernkastel fishing club. Slightly but steadily ascending, walk about 2.2 kilometers alternately through forest and meadow terrain up to the paved farm road you already know from the way there. It leads you left back to Longkamp. Cross the bridge over the new B50 again and shortly after make a last rest under birch trees. From here, the path goes downhill through a sunken lane—past the old waterworks from 1909—up to the chapel at the entrance to Longkamp. Here, cross the street and walk past the town hall back to the starting point at the village fountain.
