General information

Directions

The starting point is the parsonage in Kobern, from where a narrow serpentine path leads uphill, offering the first beautiful views of the Mosel valley. Upon reaching a high plateau, the hiker comes into contact with the fascinating world of viticulture. In close touch with nature, the path leads down into the valley to the Gerlachsmühle. Here begins the path into the dreamlike Keverbach valley with idyllic forests and lively babbling brooks. Past the settlement of Solligerhof, a diverse landscape unfolds before the hiker: from the fantastic long-distance views on open plateaus over blooming hedges to the cooling high forest, everything is offered. An excursion leads to the Celtic cult site: the Goloring. The path continues through venerable birch and mixed deciduous forests until a great view of Wolken and the surroundings opens up at the forest edge. Further along, two natural mineral springs follow with the Sauerbrunnen and the Quidoborn. Refreshed by the delicious water, the next hill can be easily climbed, where as a reward a fantastic view, the impressive Matthiaskapelle, and the historic Oberburg await. The final descent via the Way of the Cross again offers overwhelming views and a recommended detour to the Niederburg ruin before reaching the goal in Kobern.

Safety Guidelines

In some sections, surefootedness and a head for heights are required.

General Safety Notes:

Safety notes – Safe hiking on the Traumpfade

Hikers want narrow paths, natural trails (over forest soil, grass paths or along streams) and rocky ascents leading to spectacular views. It goes without saying that such paths must be walked with special care.

What you should observe during your hike:

  • Wear weather-appropriate, functional clothing that protects you from cold and wet or heat and sun.
  • Plan your hike with reasonable breaks and use your strength sparingly.
  • Take sufficient fluids with you. There are not always places to stop for refreshments.
  • Please wear appropriate hiking boots for the Traumpfad that provide sufficient grip even on slippery and steep or rocky and uneven paths.
  • If you think certain sections of the path are impassable for you, you should bypass or turn back. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural paths can have muddy and slippery sections.
  • Especially in autumn, be aware that fallen leaves on the ground can cover unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path.
  • You must expect such path impairments when undertaking a hike.
  • Inform yourself before your hike on the internet at https://www.traumpfade.info/traumpfade/wege-status/ whether the Traumpfad you want to hike is possibly closed, whether there are detours, planned construction work or e.g., logging work or other disturbances.
  • Recommended hiking months: April to October.

Difficulty classification:

Easy routes

... show only minor elevation differences and can mostly be completed in half a day with regard to distance. They do not require special fitness or surefootedness. There are no path sections requiring a head for heights. Short steeper sections are possible. Depending on the path format, parts may be difficult to walk when wet.

Medium routes

... can be managed well with average fitness. Path sections may require good surefootedness, so sturdy footwear is important; hiking poles can be useful. Some somewhat longer and also steeper ascents and descents are possible. Difficult (partly secured) passages are the absolute exception and can usually be avoided by detours. Natural sections can be difficult to walk when wet.

Hard routes

... require very good fitness and stamina due to length and/or altitude meters to be mastered. Very good surefootedness is also necessary to manage steep ascents and descents on partly demanding paths. Rope-secured sections and/or simple climbing passages that require a minimum degree of fearlessness are possible. Sturdy footwear and hiking poles are important. Paths and exposed passages are often only difficult or even impossible to walk in wet or wintry weather.

Equipment

Sturdy footwear is recommended for the route!
