General information

Directions

The enjoyable loop of the Traumpfädchen Kleiner Stern begins at the Krahnenberg car park. From the call taxi stop, a staircase leads downwards before turning left to the nearby viewing platform, which offers a magnificent view of the Rhine and Andernach. Then a footpath leads past the "Krahnenburg" (the Krahnenburg house) into a small forest. Shortly afterwards, a Rhine view opens up at a bench and a little later you reach the "Most Beautiful Wine View Middle Rhine 2016", the tripoint of the tour, and enjoy the great view into the valley from the bench.

Now the actual circular tour begins, which is best done counterclockwise to experience the view of the Neuwied Basin on the return journey. Initially, you walk straight along the edge of the field with the E8 and Rhine Heights Trail, but soon change into attractive mixed deciduous forest. Occasionally benches offer a place to rest and there are views to Namedy. Although the pier can be seen well from the Geyser, the natural attraction with the fountain up to 60 meters high hides in the dense foliage.

Gradually the forest becomes denser and swallows the sounds of the Rhine valley. When you reach the shelter at Kleiner Stern, the path turns sharply left and leads up to just before the edge of the forest. There you turn right onto a constantly rising path. At a fork, the Traumpfädchen leaves the E8 and swings to the right, climbing further through the forest. A little later you reach a wide forest track with a short right-left offset, which you follow left to the nearby High Cross. Here benches offer a place to rest, and from the cross at the edge of the forest you have a great panoramic view.

After a noticeable descent, the path changes at the edge of the forest to the open field with a wide view dominated by the distinctive cones of the Vulkaneifel volcanoes. Many meters lower, the path turns left, approaches the edge of the slope, and then continues with several changes of direction eastwards through the fields.

When you reach the access road to the car park, turn left and shortly afterwards reach again the "Most Beautiful Wine View Middle Rhine 2016". From here you follow the already known route to the viewing platform and back to the car park.

Safety Guidelines

General safety information:

Safety advice - safe hiking on the Traumpfädchen

Hikers want narrow paths, natural trails (over forest floor, grass paths, or alongside streams) and rocky ascents that lead to spectacular views. It is, of course, necessary to proceed with special care on such paths.

What you should pay attention to during your hike:

  • Wear weather-appropriate, functional clothing that protects you against cold and wet, or heat and sun.
  • Plan your hike with reasonable breaks and conserve your strength.
  • Bring enough fluids. Refreshment opportunities are not available everywhere.
  • Please wear appropriate hiking boots that provide enough support even on slippery, steep, rocky, and uneven paths.
  • If you believe certain path sections are not passable for you, you should bypass or turn back. Especially in adverse weather, natural paths can become muddy and slippery.
  • In autumn, also pay attention to fallen leaves which can hide unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path.
  • You should expect such path impairments when hiking.
  • Before your hike, check online at www.traumpfade.info/traumpfaedchen/wege-status/ whether the Traumpfädchen you want to hike is closed, if there are detours, planned construction work, tree cutting, or other disturbances.
  • Recommended hiking months: April to October.
Equipment

The Traumpfädchen are not suitable for strollers or walkers.

You can find information about path closures at: www.traumpfade.info/traumpfaedchen/wege-status/

Tip
  • The path is especially heavily used on weekends and public holidays. We recommend you, if possible, to opt for weekdays (Mon-Fri).
  • Please check whether arrival by public transport (ÖPNV) is possible and refrain from arriving with your own car.

  • Car park:

You reach a hill at the end of the street "In der Felster". Please note that this is not yet the parking lot of the Traumpfädchen. Please follow the parking signs and turn right until you reach the car park and thus the starting point of the Traumpfädchen "Kleiner Stern". There are sufficient parking facilities here. Parking at the end of the street "In der Felster" is prohibited as it causes considerable inconvenience for residents, agriculture, and possibly for emergency vehicles access.

Getting there

B 9 exit Andernach-West/Nickenich/Maria Laach - towards Büropark Rennweg - continue at the roundabout to Kirchberg - turn left onto Krahnenbergstrasse (follow the signs for Krahnenberg) - this continues into the street "In der Felster" - at the top turn right to the Krahnenberg car park (signposted)
