General information
Directions
Directly on the L125 is the spacious car park at the gateway to the Traumpfädchen Moseltraum. It is recommended to hike the path clockwise due to a steep ascent.
You walk downhill over the car park and shortly after the first steps reach the lively bubbling Weilsborn spring. You hike trail-like through the small woodland and pass private gardens to a paved path. Without changing direction you continue hiking, ancient vineyard walls line the path edge and involuntarily you pay respect to the builders of these dry stone walls for the durability of their constructions.
After another short trail section you finally meet an asphalt path and walk briefly uphill before switching to a barely paved vineyard path. This path initially runs without much elevation difference but then noticeably descends.
At the bench and viewpoint "Vogelsang", the strenuous part of the path begins: with the access routes to Rheinburgenweg and Moselsteig, it is necessary to master the steep slope uphill to the Domgarten hut on narrow switchbacks, which definitely requires stamina and surefootedness. Once at the top, the efforts are quickly forgotten when enjoying the breathtakingly beautiful view from one of the benches or from inside the hut.
Afterwards, it's time for enjoyable hiking, because together with Moselsteig and Rheinburgenweg, the Traumpfädchen leads along meadows and the edge of the slope. Occasionally shrubs provide scene changes and beautiful views repeatedly open up. Particularly wonderful is to enjoy the valley view on a lovely grassy path section from another bench.
Finally, the path descends clearly and it is necessary to pass through a hollow where the Rheinburgenweg bids farewell. Still together with the Moselsteig, the Traumpfädchen climbs once more a little uphill before it goes through open fields back to the L125. Here, at the car park by the Weilsborn spring, the circle of this charming round route near Winningen closes.
Safety Guidelines
General safety instructions:
Safety instructions – safe hiking on the Traumpfädchen routes
Hikers desire narrow paths, natural trails (over forest floor, grassy paths or along streams) and rocky ascents that lead to spectacular views. It is of course essential that such paths are walked with particular attention.
What you should consider during your hike:
- Wear weather-appropriate, functional clothing that protects you from cold and wet or heat and sun.
- Plan your hike with appropriate breaks and use your strength sparingly.
- Take enough liquid with you. Refreshment options are not available everywhere.
- Please wear suitable hiking boots that provide enough support even on slippery and steep or rocky and uneven paths.
- If you think certain path sections are impassable for you, then you should avoid or turn back. Especially in bad weather conditions natural paths may be muddy and slippery.
- Especially in autumn, be aware that fallen leaves on the ground can cover unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path.
- You must expect these kinds of path impairments when hiking.
- Check the internet before your hike at https://www.traumpfade.info/traumpfaedchen/wege-status/ to see if the Traumpfädchen you want to hike on is closed, if there are detours, if trail works are planned or for example forestry work or other disturbances.
- Recommended hiking months: April to October.
Equipment
A section of the path is steep, so please wear sturdy hiking boots.
