General information

Directions

A 750 m access route to the Linkemühle starting point is signposted at the “Unter den Linden” bus stop in the centre of Niederfell. The Linkemühle building is the start of the Niederfeller Schweiz dream pathlet, which is best discovered in  a clockwise direction. This means that you first of all follow the road sign to the Grillhütte shelter. The forest floor ensures a wonderful spring under your soles as the narrow forest trail snakes ever deeper into the idyllic valley of the Aspeler Bach stream. A very biodiverse mixed woodland and small rocky cliffs make for a relaxed and tranquil atmosphere. Step by step, you are almost imperceptibly climbing higher, until the dream path that accompanied you so far branches off after 0.7 km. The dream pathlet then follows the valley of the Aspeler Back stream halfway up the slope. With lively ups and downs, the hike finally leads to the Grillhütte shelter inviting you to stay right out here in the greenery.

Freshly strengthened, the short but marked climb up to the Moselle plateau, also known as the Old Niederfell Cattle Trail, is easily mastered a little later. Once you are at the top, the forest recedes and lush meadows let your gaze range freely over the surroundings. Only one swerve later you reach the Maifeld lookout point at a crossing. The grand vista over the Moselle valley and far into the Maifeld is particularly enjoyable from the bench available here.

Just a few more meters uphill from the Maifeld lookout, and then the route descends into the valley. Together with the Traumpfad and Moselsteig trails, you are now walking through a diverse landscape dominated by meadow orchards and hedges.

After crossing an access road, fire rose alley awaits. Lush wild roses especially flank the first section of this very idyllic trail that soon happens upon the view of the von der Leyen Castle with St. John’s Church.

Gently ascending, the dream pathlet now leads past rocky cliffs to the last highlight of the day: the Mönch Felix shelter, an airy lookout tower. The wonderful panoramic view is informed by the Moselle, Niederfell, and Kobern-Gondorf with its castles. You master the final descent into the valley elated. From the portal at the Linkemühle building, the aforementioned (750 m) access route returns hikers back to Niederfell, where catering establishments invite them to stop off.

Safety Guidelines

Safety guidance – stay safe whilst hiking on the Traumpfade/Traumpfädchen

Hikers like narrow pathways, unspoilt natural trails (leading over the forest floor, across the grass or alongside streams) and rocky climbs which lead to spectacular views. It goes without saying that particular care should be exercised when taking such routes.

Things to bear in mind when preparing for your hike

  • Wear proper clothing that is appropriate to the weather conditions and that will protect you against the cold and the wet or the heat and the sun.
  • Schedule suitable breaks during your hike and make sure that you conserve energy.
  • Take sufficient liquids with you. Establishments selling refreshments are not available everywhere.
  • When hiking on the Traumpfade, please wear appropriate hiking boots which provide a sufficient foothold on slippery, steep, rocky and uneven paths.
  • If you do not feel that you are able to negotiate certain parts of the route, then you should avoid such sections or else turn back. Natural pathways may become muddy and treacherous, especially in unfavourable weather.
  • In autumn in particular, please remember that leaves lying on the ground may be concealing bumps, routes, stones or holes in the path.
  • You will need to expect route impairments of this kind if you are intending to undertake a hike.
  • Before setting out, visit https://www.traumpfade.info/traumpfaedchen/wege-status/ in order to find out whether the route you intend to hike is closed or whether diversions are in place. Construction works, timber felling or other disruptions may also be planned.
  • Recommended hiking season: April to October
