General information
Directions
Just outside Obermedig (750 meters access path from the parking lot) begins the exciting journey through time on the Traumpfädchen Mendiger Römerreich. You are accompanied by the legionnaire Mandius, who tells stories from Roman times at several stations along the way.
From the parking lot, it is only a few meters down the little road to the route's tripoint. Mandius wants to take the hiker on a highly entertaining journey against the clock. So you now turn right onto a farm road and walk gently uphill between fields. Before reaching the forest, it is worth looking back to enjoy a great view.
Once you enter the forest, the moss-roofed hut with rest areas invites you to picnic in the green. Then comes the finest forest hiking, because the legionnaire and the Traumpfädchen lead you relaxedly through the very attractive forest, optionally under majestic beeches or fragrant pines. You gain altitude leisurely and in early summer, bright yellow broom delights along the roadside.
Eventually, you reach a fork and the logos point left. On a soft forest path, the approach to the Segbach begins. After 1.8 km, the time has come: reaching the Segbach valley, a sharp left turn signals the passage along the gently murmuring brook.
Besides the Roman trace search, it is again the attractive nature that excites. Gradually, the deeply cut valley turns into a forest meadow and at a distinctive old oak, it is time to turn right and leave the forest. After crossing a meadow and a charming thicket, a comfortable field path leads through the now wide, open valley meadow of the Segbach valley. A majestic group of huge oaks and willows captivates everyone and looks very impressive in every season.
The meadow section ends at a cross path, where the Traumpfädchen turns left. A few steps uphill and then the villa view is reached, where Mandius points out a long-vanished Roman villa rustica.
Shortly thereafter, you cross a hilltop and involuntarily pause, taking in a fantastic panoramic view! The easy final descent back to the starting point is very scenic, where after 3.6 km this exceptionally attractive nature circuit and insightful journey through time ends. After 750 meters, you reach the parking lot.
Safety Guidelines
General safety instructions:
Safety instructions - Safe hiking on the Traumpfädchen
Hikers want narrow paths, natural paths (over forest soil, grass paths, or along streams) and rocky climbs that lead to spectacular views. Of course, such paths must be walked with particular care.
What you should consider on your hike:
- Wear weather-appropriate, suitable clothing to protect you from cold and wet or heat and sun.
- Plan your hike with appropriate breaks and use your strength sparingly.
- Take enough fluids with you. Catering facilities are not available everywhere.
- Please wear appropriate hiking boots that provide sufficient support even on slippery and steep or rocky and uneven paths.
- If you think that certain sections of the path are impassable for you, you should bypass them or turn back. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural paths can become muddy and slippery.
- In autumn, also be aware that fallen leaves on the ground can hide unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path.
You must reckon with such path impairments when undertaking a hike.
Check online before your hike at https://www.traumpfade.info/traumpfaedchen/wege-status/ whether the Traumpfädchen you want to hike is possibly closed, if detours exist, if there are path construction measures planned or, for example, logging or other disturbances.
Recommended hiking months: April to October.
