An experience for all senses. Just above the roofs of Ürzig, 160 plant species, 20 rose varieties and numerous spices and herbs grow on a steep slope.
The Ürziger Garten offers a wide variety of flora and fauna. Butterflies, bumblebee and bee species pollinate the plants, which thrive excellently on the warm slate soil. And: near Ürzig is the only Moselle mountain that is characterised by a tectonic rift valley and a volcanic glowing cloud. Instead of Devonian slate, a variety of different rocks can be found here, with the red loose rock being particularly typical. More detailed information is provided by numerous panels and rock samples along the route.
Insights into the hiking tour:
In the surroundings of Ürzig interesting geological rock deposits can be seen, which in this composition are probably unique in the world. The so-called Rotliegende in its numerous formations meets the dark domestic back slate of the Devonian near Ürzig. It is a fantastic world, which can be explored even by the inexperienced. You can marvel at sky-high cliffs, plants that you rarely see, viticulture under alpine conditions and 5 different types of rocks in the geological garden.
