- Dohr
Above Cochem on the edge of the Eifel, framed by the Ellerbach, lies the local community of Dohr. The municipality of Dohr was first mentioned in a document in 1210. At that time, Dohr was a fief of Count Gerhard von Are under Archbishop Johann the First.
The name Dohr is derived from the Celtic "Dunon" and means fortified hill. The first written evidence of Dohr is found around 1200. In 1210, Count Gerhard von Are made "a villaquaediciturDurejuxta Cochem" (a farm called Dure and located near Cochem) a fief of Archbishop Johann I of Trier. Around 1475, a chapel was first mentioned as a branch of the parish church of Cochem. In a visitation report from 1569, it was referred to as Capella in Doir. Later, the name of the village changed again and was now called Dohor.
