The Lehmener Würzlay is one of the 30 designated historic vineyard landscapes on the Moselle. It is a typical cultural landscape with centuries-old structures, including elaborately built walls that are founded on the rocks. The result is an overall ensemble of vineyard terraces, the landscape-defining buildings, natural rock formations and the course of the Moselle. The Würzlay stretches from the southern edge of the wine-growing village of Lehmen to the "Ausoniusstein" nature reserve in the direction of Kattenes and is located in the "Moselle area from Schweich to Koblenz" landscape conservation area, in the Middle and Lower Moselle bird sanctuary and in the "Moselle slopes and side valleys of the lower Moselle" FFH area. Another nature reserve "Reiherschussinsel" is located in front of the steep slope of the Lehmener Würzlay. The great biological diversity of the Lehmener Würzlay is focused like the light in a burning glass in the Razejungewingert. This creates a truly "record-breaking" beacon of the Living Moselle Vineyards in a historic viticultural landscape with very complex habitat structures. Record-breaking is also the occurrence of extremely rare species of different animal groups such as the red-winged bush cricket, the Apollo butterfly or the honey buzzard. Just like the commitment of the Lehmer Razejungen to the preservation and further development of this wonderful cultural landscape.
Note: With the initiative "Living Moselle Vineyards", the Service Center Rural Moselle promotes biodiversity in the vineyards in the Moselle growing region. For this purpose, so-called points of light are awarded.
