Up to 29 superimposed terraces and many kilometers of dry stone walls run through the vineyards of Uhlen, Hamm, Röttgen and Brückstück. The 130 span arches and the 600 scissor stairs embedded in the walls are impressive. In addition to their cultural and historical significance, the Moselle slopes also provide a habitat for such special and rare animal species as the Apollo butterfly and the eagle owl.
