Sauerbrunnen Longuich
The Sauerbrunnen is a carbonated mineral spring with a high iron content. The occurrence of this "acidulous spring" is connected with a geotectonic fracture structure. Water and carbonic acid dissolved in it rises from deeper layers through fissures or faults. At a depth of about 10-20 m there is a layer of red iron from which the slightly acidic water dissolves those mineral compounds that settle on the surface as rust-colored swelling sediments. In 1913, on the occasion of the jubilee of the reign of Kaiser Wilhelm II, the spring was re-filled and embellished with tree plantings.
