Weinbergsmauer

  • Traben-Trarbach

Old vineyard walls are a paradise for animals and plants.

The strictly protected wall lizard (Podarcis muralis) loves old vineyard walls, on which it can sunbathe and hide in crevices. As a cold-blooded animal, the reptile regulates its body heat via the outside temperature. There are numerous insects as a source of food in the flowering plants in the area. To distract enemies, the wall lizard can shed its tail, which grows a little shorter. The White Stonecrop (Sedum album) is a perennial, herbaceous and water-storing plant that grows on rocks and on sunny wall crowns. The pretty, star-shaped flowers can be seen from June to July. Stonecrop is satisfied with very little soil, the roots quickly find a hold. Stonecrop leaves are usually red on the rocks. If it grows in more nutritious soils, the leaves turn green.
