Circular tour with slight incline from one part of the Moselle village of Neumagen-Dhron to the next. Ideal for those who want to get to know the place better.
Many animals such as goats, donkeys, cattle and horses graze on the lush meadows of the Dhorntal. In enclosures you can also see fallow deer and wild boars. With a bit of luck you can also watch an ice model on the Dhornbach. In the gentle Dhorn Valley, large gradients cannot be overcome at first. But to the glider airfield on the Neumagener Berg it goes a short distance steeply uphill.Insights into the hiking tour:The hike starts in the district of Dhorn and leads along the small river of the same name from the bridge to the district of Papiermühle, gently ascending through woods and meadows. On the Neumagen plateau, the hike initially continues straight ahead along field paths. This takes you past the glider airfield, from where you can watch the planes in good weather. In the further course of the route one reaches the edge of the valley again. At the edge of the vineyards you can enjoy wonderful views of the Moselle valley as well as nice places to rest. A perfect finish is provided by the numerous rest stops in Neumagen-Dhorn.
General information
Directions
From the parking lot at the "Domfreihof" in the district of Dhron you cross the bridge and walk directly behind the large slate house (passage as a footpath) to a mill stream. Passing the kindergarten, the Dhrontalweg runs through the street "Metschert". Cross another Dhron bridge to the Papiermühle junction. You leave the village and hike through the meadows of the Dhron valley. When the farm path meets asphalt after about 5 kilometres, prepare for the return journey (or make a detour of about 500 metres to the district Papiermühle with refreshment facilities at the weekend). From the Papiermühle cemetery, you hike above (orchard) meadows to a crossroads, where you climb steeply up into the forest. You reach the so-called "Neumagener Plateau". Straight ahead you walk along the gliding field. At an intersection with an iron signpost there is a change of direction. Continue straight on along a dirt road, the last stretch to the edge of the forest on asphalt. Along the edge of the forest, a farm track leads to a beautiful view of the slate roofs of Dhron and further into the vineyards. Along the Talkante at the edge of the vineyards you descend again towards Dhron with a magnificent view of the Moselle. The road "In Folz" takes you back to the starting point at the Domfreihof in Dhron.Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator
