Who are the "grape guardians"? Organic winery "Die Traubenhüter", that is Thomas and Magdalena Ibald from the small wine-growing village of Hatzenport on the Terraced Moselle.
Since 2019, we are a fully certified, ecologically controlled winery! ECO control number: DE-RP-003-64048-AB
For three decades, we have been managing our vineyards part-time and have sold our harvest to colleagues. Rooted in steep slope viticulture since childhood, we decided that now, with the children almost grown up, we want to bottle our Riesling grapes ourselves. Our dreams of Riesling, of terroir, of cultural landscapes, of teamwork with nature, and of enjoying life and wine are now coming true. In search of a name that focuses all these visions like a magnifying glass, we came across the "Traubenhüter". An over 700-year-old term from Middle High German, originally used for the guardian and defender against bird damage and grape thieves. We associate the "Traubenhüter" with a careful, indeed protective approach to this fascinating plant, the vine, which has provided so much material for poets and thinkers, philosophers and priests, the poor and the rich, introverts and extroverts, enthusiasts and melancholics for thousands of years.
Book guided tours: The duration of the tour can be individually adjusted from 2.5 to 4 hours. The ideal group size is between 8 and 15 people. The price per participant is €24, including 4 wine tastings.
