The house of the Vinothek was acquired by the municipality of Winningen in 1994 and was prepared for its new functions at great financial expense: Wine - Culture - Information. In the summer of 2004, the Vinothek was opened. 17 winegrowers had joined forces to present the high quality of Winningen wines in this very tasteful setting. Visitors have the opportunity to taste and purchase about 40 wines and sparkling wines from independent Winningen wineries in one place. The guest pays a fee for the wines tasted and is thus "freed" from any further obligation to purchase. In addition, the Vinothek offers "wine-related" products such as brandies, wine literature, corkscrews and similar useful items for the wine household. Martina and Lothar Kröber have been running the Vinothek in the Winninger Spital since April 2005. They offer wine tasting and walking tours, also for foreign guests, in English, French, Spanish and Italian. The vintners of the Vinothek: Wolfgang von Canal Winery and Sparkling Wine Cellars, Domgartenhof Winery, Freiherr von Heddesdorff Winery, Fries Winery, VDP Heymann-Löwenstein Winery, Fred Knebel Winery, VDP Reinhard and Beate Knebel Winery, Winery Löwensteinhof, Winery Rüdiger Kröber, Winery Materne & Schmitt, Bernkasteler Ring Winery Richard Richter, Winery Horst Sünner, Winery Ute Mölich, Winery Peter Weyh, Winery Im Trischelsberg.
