“What one inherits from the fathers, one should preserve and pass on to the next generation.” This was 30 years ago the essential motivation to independently continue the small winemaking business after my father's death - alongside the enjoyment of working in the vineyard and cellar, the change from office work, and the ambition not to give up, as so many did during that time.
Our vineyards are located in Lehmen on the Moselle. This traditional wine village between Koblenz and Cochem offers some of the best sites for growing Riesling throughout the Lower Moselle. The vineyards can be found in the Lehmen locations of Würzlay, Lay, Klosterberg, and Ausoniustein. Thanks to the foundation of vineyards, equipment, and operational buildings, long-term development was possible for us. Therefore, we have replanted the vineyards in the coming years to enable time-saving work with the best results. Until the early 1980s, the father sold a large part of the wine in barrels to the traditional “Fuder” (which corresponds to 1000 l) to wine brokers, who at that time existed in many Moselle towns. Unfortunately, wine prices have not increased since that time, and we were faced with the choice of either giving up or improving revenues. Therefore, we have stopped selling barrel wine and bottle our wine for direct marketing.
