OUR LOCATIONS The Thörnicher Ritsch has long been one of the really big vineyard names on the Moselle. The characteristics of the individual parcels can be clearly tasted. That is why each plot is developed individually. The Riesling vines at the core of the Thörnicher Ritsch harbor immense viticultural and flavor potential for the premium wines. Dense, delicately aromatic Rieslings with ethereal, even smoky notes are produced here. The south-west exposed, younger plots of Ritsch stand for a subtle fruitiness, paired with lively minerality. Our local Rieslings grow in these areas of the site.

THE WINERY

In 1628 the Ludwig family inherited a piece of land in the Thörnicher Ritsch. This laid the foundation for the Gebr. Ludwig winery. Almost 400 years and many generations later, Meike and Thomas Ludwig are doing what works best on the Moselle on ten hectares of vineyards: authentic, natural Rieslings from slate. This applies in particular to the location of the Thörnicher Ritsch, which is predestined for this. The basis: a return to traditional and artisanal winemaking, sensible use of technology and natural viticulture. The goal: perfect harmony between the vine, the soil and the environment. In addition to unique Rieslings with all facets of this fascinating grape variety, white and gray Burgundy, Sauvignon blanc and the red St. Laurent are grown.
