The combination of young, innovative ideas and the experiences passed on from generations allow us to produce stylish and classic Moselle Rieslings. Because the Moselle is Riesling, steep slopes and slate! Our winery is a real family winery that is currently changing generations. After completing a master’s degree in viticulture, oenology and wine management, daughter Lisa brings a breath of fresh air to the winery.

Our family has been producing top-class Rieslings in the wine village of Leiwen for over 200 years. The name of the winery "Scholisch‘ "comes from this early period at the beginning of the 19th century. The origin lies with Caspar Schmitt. He was born in Ehrenbreitstein in 1770 and was a teacher in Leiwen on the Moselle from 1794 to 1815. Our house name “Scholisch” is derived from his job title, often called schoolmaster at the time. “De Scholisch” was the slang term in the Moselle villages for “the schoolmaster”. The peculiarity is that it became the house name of our family, which has endured over the generations and ultimately became the name of our winery. Our vineyards stretch along the Moselle for 15 km, from Detzem via Leiwen to Dhron. Year-round green vineyards and a good humus supply are the cornerstones of a naturally functioning ecosystem. Quality-related cutting, late selective harvest, gentle grape processing at the highest technical level are the basis of our grape production. Our locations: - Leiwen monastery garden - Detzemer Max. Klosterlay - Dhroner Hofberg Our grape varieties: - Riesling: 90% - Pinot Noir: 4% - Pinot Blanc: 6% Wine bar: up to 20 people Vineyard tour, wine experience tours Languages: English
