The Riesling winery Nik Weis - St. Urbans-Hof in Leiwen on the Moselle is run in the third generation by Nik Weis and his family. The winery has been a member of the renowned Association of German Prädikatsweingüter (VDP) since 2000. The approx. 45 hectares of vineyards extend for around 60 km along the rivers Mosel and Saar and are cultivated in a traditional way in harmony with nature.
Of the prestigious individual sites in which world-class Rieslings grow, five are classified as VDP.Grosse Lage. The wines are fermented exclusively with natural yeasts. When the winery was founded in 1947 by Nik Weis' grandfather, one of the first private nurseries in Germany came into being, from which Riesling winemakers from the Moselle and around the world are still supplied with new vines. Nik Weis works particularly on the research and propagation of old Riesling clones from the Moselle, as he was able to prove at the turn of the millennium that the vine and composition of a vineyard have a decisive effect on the later wine quality.
