In 1930, Otto Wilhelm Knaup registered the wine trade with the Treis municipal office.

Otto Wilhelm Knaup applied for wine trading at the Treis town hall office in 1930. The wine and grapes were initially bought up at winegrowers from Treis, filled and sent to customers. The largest customer base at the time was from the city of Bochum, as this was Otto Wilhelm’s home town. Today, we deliver the wines personally and FREE HOME DELIVERY to almost every part of Germany. Vineyards were leased and bought after a while.
Otto Knaup jun. took over the establishment in the early 1960s. In 1983, the old vicarage from Treis was purchased and new, larger operational premises were built. Tino Knaup, who had been working at the establishment since 1978 and had studied wine purchasing, further expanded operations. We have now been running a “Straußwirtschaft” seasonal inn for 25 years, and a rustic wine tavern for 4 years. In 1999, the guesthouse was completed with 5 double guest rooms. We are particularly proud of the fact that the guesthouse has been awarded a 4-star rating. Wine tastings, hikes through the vineyards, and wagon rides round off the wine estate’s range of services. The establishment has been run by Tino and Ellen Knaup since 1994. Our son Matthias Knaup, who passed his master winemaker course in 2005, is the next generation to be involved with vineyards, wine and marketing. Approx. 4 ha of vineyards are currently cultivated, the main grape variety being Riesling. However, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Dornfelder, Rivaner and Regent have also been grown over the last few years. Stop by one day and get to know our wine estate and Riesling wines. We would be delighted to welcome you.
