The winery lives from a centuries-old winemaking tradition in the family. In 1983, the father of winemaker Martin Dötsch took over the parental winery and in 1986 merged it with the traditional winery of his brother-in-law, the winery Heinrich Haupt. He laid the foundations for the winery in its current form, which with 12 hectares of steep and steepest vineyards in Kobern's top sites is one of the largest wineries in the entire Moselle region dedicated to terracing. The family cultivates 12 hectares of terraced vineyards with slopes of 100%. Manual labor is required on the 500 to 800 year old slate terraces. Except for sulfites, we do not use any additives in the winemaking process. The vinification takes place traditionally. We give the wines the opportunity to mature individually and take care of the different sites and vintages in order to preserve their character and particularity. In the effort to harvest the highest quality grapes in the terraces, we have to analyze, observe, act from experience and keep learning in order to decipher the mystery of wine year after year. Martin and Philipp are responsible for the vinification.
