Set in the idyllic wine-growing village Lieser, at the heart of the Middle Moselle holiday region, you will find Franz-Josef Genetsch family wine estate. Today, Franz-Josef Genetsch and his wife Gertrud manage the estate with its long winemaking tradition. Their son Christian has been responsible for the wine cellar since 2008. He acquired a master's certificate in viticulture in 2010. The 6 hectares of vineyards, which form the basis of the winery, stretch across the steep slope sites of “Niederberg-Helden” and “Schlossberg” in Lieser and “Kardinalsberg” in Bernkastel-Kues. Top quality of the grapes in all vineyards is their utmost concern. Therefore, the focus is on natural wine production. A reduction in crop yields by selective hand picking in at least two harvests is practiced. The grapes are mashed in different intervals, depending on the particular wine and grape. Afterwards, all grapes are pressed with gentle techniques. The musts are fermented gently in a temperature-controlled fermentation process. The red wines are fermented right on the mash. The wines remain on the yeast for a long time and are filtered only once, immediately prior to bottling. Thereby, they obtain the rich fruity flavours and freshness as well as the unique goût de terroir of the slate steep slopes in the Moselle region. In 2006, a new 4 star guest house was annexed to the wine estate.
