The Mönchhof, formerly owned by the Cistercian abbey of Himmerod, is one of the oldest wineries on the Moselle. As early as 1177, Pope Alexander III confirmed the first vineyard property of Ürzig Abbey. The monks of Himmerod built the vaulted cellars and in 1509 the present estate building. In 1804, after secularisation under Napoleon, the Eymael family was able to purchase the vineyard in Paris at an auction. The VDP- Winery Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erben was taken over in 2001. The vineyards of the Mönchhof include first-class sites on the famous steep slopes of the "Ürziger Würzgarten", the "Erdener Treppchen" and the rare "Erdener Prälat". They are exclusively planted with unrooted Riesling vines, some of which are a hundred years old.
You can combine a trip to the Mönchhof in Ürzig with a several-day stay at our estate. In the elegantly designed rooms and guestrooms you will enjoy the unmistakable ambience of the Mönchhof.
